Nigeria and Tanzania shared points in the opening game of the women's cricket event at the ongoing African Games in Ghana.
The game at the Achimota school cricket oval saw Tanzania win the toss and opt to bat. Nigeria, taking the field, restricted the East African team to 58/3 in 10 overs before rain halted play. The pitch was declared unfit to continue by the Playing Control Team (PCT) of the tournament.
Both sides had to settle for one point each in the opening game of Group A. Blessing Etim, captain of the Nigerian team, expressed regret that the game couldn't be played in full, as it would have helped expose their challenges.
"I wish we had played out the game; we would have been able to assess our strengths and weaknesses better. We will face Namibia next, and hopefully, we can get a good result in the game," she said.
Nigeria is in Group A and will face South Africa on Sunday. A total of eight teams are featuring in the event as cricket makes its debut at the Games.
