The Commandant General of the NSCDC and 1992 NUGA Silver medallist, Ahmed Audi, has reiterated the Corps' support and encouragement for sportsmen and women in 2024.
Audi said that officers of the NSCDC have remained a source of inspiration and positive light to the military and paramilitary in terms of winning laurels.
The Commandant General revealed that he has a background in sports and won a silver medal at the 1992 Nigeria University Games in Ilorin, Kwara state.
The former Table Tennis player said, “We will encourage and renew the confidence of our sportsmen and women in the system to make them put in more effort.
``I urge you not to relent and continue to give your best to the service of our great nation. Let me assure you that your little contributions will continue to be recognized and appreciated.
“I am calling on well-meaning Nigerians to align themselves with the development of sports through sponsorship, thereby contributing to the transformation of the country.
“I have a background in Physical and Health Education; I won a silver medal in the Table Tennis event at the 1992 Nigeria University Games (NUGA) in Unilorin, Kwara State.”
He revealed that NSCDC will continue to focus on the development of talents.
Audi said, “Sports is a unifying factor globally and a critical factor in bringing together people with diverse cultures, religions, and ethnic backgrounds. It is noted to have raised the profile of countries, thereby bringing development there. Any contribution made towards sports is indeed a generous contribution to the development of the nation.
“It is on record that the NSCDC continues to focus on discovering, encouraging, and developing talents while still remaining focused on its primary responsibilities”.
“I make bold to state with a sense of pride that the Corps is a great motivator of sportsmen and has been instrumental in some of the success recorded in the area of sports in the nation.
``We remain a source of inspiration and a positive light to others to follow; the corps has continued to display a high sense of commitment and remained a household name,” he added.
