The Nigeria Rowing, Canoeing, and Sailing Federation (NRCSF) has assured that the forthcoming 9th African Canoe Sprint Championship will be a tremendous success.
The championship, which is part of the Continental Olympic Qualification series, is scheduled to take place from November 20 to 27, 2023, at Jabi Lake in Abuja.
Speaking in an interview after visiting the office of the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan-Enoh, in Abuja, Rear Admiral Festus Pobeni, the President of the Nigeria Rowing, Canoeing, and Sailing Federation, assured that the federation would continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Sports to host a fitting championship.
According to Admiral Pobeni, the meeting with the honorable minister of sports development is yielding positive results.
"I have briefed the honorable minister about the upcoming event, the African Canoeing Olympic qualification series, and we are expecting around 20 countries to participate here in Nigeria. I can tell you that the meeting was positive."
"We will continue working with the sports ministry to ensure the successful staging of the championship."
"The ministry is the parent organization of the federations, and the minister has assured us of his support for our program."
The NRCSF President further emphasized that Nigerian athletes will benefit significantly from the tournament, as the African Canoe Sprint Championship is taking place in Nigeria.
"It is crucial to host the championship in Nigeria because our athletes will gain from hosting. We are well-prepared, and I can confirm that 17 athletes will represent Nigeria in the championship."
"Our athletes won't need visas to travel since it is being held in Nigeria. We just need to select the best athletes to provide us with strong representation."
Nigeria, alongside 20 other African countries, will participate in the one-week African Canoe Sprint Championship.
