Nigeria has continued to maintain its dominance in Africa Scrabble, as seven Nigerians made the top ten at the 15th Africa Scrabble Championship, which ended in Kigali.
Nigeria’s Oluwatimilehin led the other Nigerians in the top 10 as he was crowned the winner of the championship with a game to spare on Sunday, becoming the youngest player to win the Africa Scrabble Championship at 24.
He clinched the trophy in round 31 after defeating compatriot Abdulmumin Jimoh by a margin of 152 points (572-422), capping a fantastic performance by winning 24 games with a total cumulative score of 2082 points.
He became the 14th Nigerian to win the championship, taking the title from Africa's best of last edition champion, Enoch Nwali, who won in Lusaka in 2023, the 14th edition of the championship.
Other Nigerians who also shone like a million stars at the 2024, 15th edition of the Africa Scrabble Championship include George Ezinore.
George Ezinore came in second, ahead of Noble Onoshevwe, while Abdulmumin Jimoh placed fourth. David Ojih occupied the sixth position, the defending champion Enoch Nwali finished seventh, and PANASA President Cup holder Victor Godwin ended the competition in the 10th position.
Nigerians have won 14 out of the 15 Africa Scrabble Championships, underlining the country’s prowess in the word game both on the continent and beyond.
