The President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Uyi Akpata, has stated that the federation's goal is to become one of the top three cricket-playing countries in Africa by 2026. During an exclusive interview in Abuja on Monday, he revealed the federation's commitment to achieving this target.
"By 2026, we aim to be recognized as one of the top cricket-playing nations in Africa and the world. We have made progress, moving from 38th to 28th in the world rankings, advancing from the eighth to the seventh position in Africa. We have also secured victories in an invitational championship in April and won the West Africa Trophy. We will continue to work diligently to realize our dreams," he said.
Akpata also mentioned that in December, the women's team will participate in the World Cup qualifiers, expressing confidence in their chances of qualifying for the ICC T20 World Cup.
In addition, the men's team will take part in the ICC T20 Men Africa qualifiers in Namibia in November, while the women's team will compete in the ICC T20 World Cup Division Qualifier in Uganda in December. Nigeria previously triumphed over Rwanda to claim the first edition of the West Africa Trophy in October in Lagos.
