New Zealand advances to record Fifth Rugby World Cup final with dominant win over Argentina

Posted : 21 October 2023
In a commanding performance, New Zealand secured a spot in their record fifth Rugby World Cup final by crushing Argentina at Stade de France. Will Jordan's outstanding hat-trick and a strong first-half display set the stage for their success.

The All Blacks showcased discipline in defense and lethal attack, with first-half tries from Jordan, Jordie Barrett, and Shannon Frizell. Aaron Smith added a fourth try after halftime, and Frizell found the tryline again, making Jordan the tournament's leading try scorer.

Their opponents in the final will be determined by the winner of the other semi-final between South Africa and England. Despite an early possession advantage for Argentina, they were unable to penetrate the New Zealand defense, managing only two Emiliano Boffelli penalties. The All Blacks absorbed the initial pressure and then unleashed their counter-attack to devastating effect.

Late in the game, they had a chance to break their own record for the largest winning margin in a World Cup semi-final, but a missed opportunity for a fourth try meant they couldn't surpass the 1987 victory over Wales. Argentina will have a chance to equal their best World Cup finish by competing in the third/fourth place play-off.

With their impressive performance, New Zealand is on the cusp of becoming the most successful nation in World Cup history as they aim for a fourth title when they return to the Stade de France for the final.
