At the Chevron Championship, the first LPGA Tour major of the year, Nelly Korda commenced her pursuit of a fifth consecutive victory with a solid four-under-par 68, positioning her two strokes behind the leader, Lauren Coughlin of the United States, who posted an impressive bogey-free 66 at The Club at Carlton Woods, Texas.
Currently ranked world No 1, Korda aims to match the legendary streaks achieved by Nancy Lopez in 1978 and Annika Sorenstam in 2005. Despite a shaky start with a bogey on the par-four second hole, Korda recovered admirably with four birdies before the turn, displaying her resilience and championship pedigree.
Reflecting on her recent busy schedule, Korda admitted that the past three consecutive events had taken a toll, indicating that she felt mentally drained when she teed up for the Chevron Championship. However, as the round progressed, Korda found her rhythm and began to play more freely, showcasing her ability to overcome challenges and perform at the highest level.
