The President of Scrabble Las Vegas, Dr. Musa Olasupo, has expressed gratitude to the sponsors and participants of Scrabble In The Jungle Season 2.
Olasupo highlighted that the vision for Scrabble In The Jungle! aimed to emulate established brands like Big Brother Nigeria, assembling Nigeria's finest scrabble players in one venue, encouraging viewer participation akin to players facing eviction, and potentially fostering a strong fanbase for scrabble. "For us in Scrabble Las Vegas, that's our vision to which we are committed," he affirmed.
Dr. Olasupo extended appreciation to sponsors including Thrive Agric, PANASA, FPC Couture, EEAST, JAMSC, Mindgames Incorporated, Chiamaka Apparel, and numerous others for their pivotal role in the success of SITJ, along with subscribers who supported the initiative. "We are immensely grateful to our sponsors and subscribers for their unwavering support, contributing to the success of this second season. The journey has been challenging, but we're pleased with the progress," he stated.
The 2023 edition of Scrabble in the Jungle tested psychological endurance and mental fortitude in the game's second season, culminating in Musa Lateef, a 200-Level Biochemical Engineering student from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), emerging as the victor after 32 rounds.
Lateef, roommates with current African Scrabble Champion Enoch Nwali, showcased determination and wordplay skills, securing the title "King of the Jungle" with 20 wins and a cumulative score of 654 points. Even facing stiff competition, Lateef exuded confidence, prevailing in the final round against close competitor "Day One Champ" Wasiu Hassan, who slipped to third place with 19 wins and a cumulative score of 862 points.
"It was challenging! Winning on Day 2 as 'The Champ', I was surprised by my initial defeat on the third day against Kareem Jamiu. I wondered if the day would continue in the same manner," shared the 3rd best youth player in Africa, known for abstaining from meals during tournaments. "But luck was on my side. In my second game, I played a non-word that my opponent failed to challenge, securing my first win. It was a grueling tournament, but I clinched victory in the final game."
Following Hassan's setback, current African Youth champion David Ojih ascended to second place with 20 wins, defeating fourth-placed Kareem Jamiu in the concluding round.
Lateef claimed 300,000 naira for his achievement, while Ojih received 220,000 naira, Hassan earned 150,000, and Jamiu was awarded 80,000 naira. Fifth-placed Emmanuel Enyi received 50,000 naira for his performance.
Muyiwa Mosope earned recognition as the Best Behaved Housemate throughout the three-day tournament.
Additional participants at the boot camp included Akeem Ogundokun, Priscilla Akhabue, Oghenekaro Onakpogbe, and Ola Joy.
