In Saturday's gold medal match in Doha, third-seeded Anders Mol and Christian Sørum secured a straight-sets victory over Sweden's Ahman and Hellvig, winning 2-0 (21-18, 22-20). The triumph allowed the Norwegian pair to avenge their earlier pool-stage loss to the young Swedish duo. While the Norwegians maintained control throughout the first set, the second was fiercely contested, with multiple lead changes.
Ahman and Hellvig were the first to reach set point, but Mol and Sørum responded decisively, scoring three consecutive points, with Mol delivering the decisive match-winning kill. Sørum led with 16 points, including two kill blocks, while Mol contributed 11 points, featuring two kill blocks and two aces. Hellvig, however, topped the individual scoring chart with 17 points, including five kill blocks.
Following their victory, Mol expressed immense satisfaction with their season finale performance. Speaking to VBTV, he shared, "It feels amazing to be on top of the podium here at the last tournament of the season. We've worked hard this year, overcoming injuries and competing fiercely at the Olympics.
Winning the Beach Pro Tour Finals is an incredible way to cap it off, and it gives us great motivation for the off-season. I’m super proud of this game!” Sørum echoed these sentiments, describing the win as surreal and praising their teamwork. "The Swedish team is tough to beat, and after they defeated us earlier, this victory feels even more special. Anders is an incredible partner, and I couldn’t be happier," he added.
In the bronze medal match, Qatar's Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan staged an impressive comeback against Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot of the Netherlands. Despite losing the first set, Cherif and Ahmed rallied to claim a thrilling 2-1 (18-21, 21-15, 17-15) victory, denying the Dutch team two match points in the decisive set. Cherif’s seven kill blocks and three aces contributed to his 22-point tally, while Ahmed added 19 points. De Groot, however, led all scorers with 24 points in a closely fought encounter.
Earlier in the semifinals, Ahman and Hellvig showcased their resilience by overturning a one-set deficit to defeat Boermans and de Groot 2-1 (19-21, 21-19, 16-14). The match was marked by tight margins and unforced errors from the Dutch team, despite De Groot’s impressive 27-point haul.
In the other semifinal, Mol delivered an exceptional defensive performance, registering 10 kill blocks to propel Norway to a dominant 2-0 (21-11, 21-16) win over Cherif and Ahmed. Mol ended the match with 20 points, while Sørum and Cherif each scored 17 points, highlighting the high level of competition throughout the tournament.
