In a thrilling showdown at the FBC Zim Open, Michael Hollick clinched victory with a remarkable final-round score of 67, securing his second Sunshine Tour title. Facing off against the seasoned Darren Fichardt, Hollick demonstrated exceptional composure and control throughout the tense last two-ball duel at the Royal Harare Golf Club, starting the final round with a one-stroke advantage.
Despite the pressure from Fichardt, Hollick maintained his lead, displaying maturity and resilience on the course. By the fourth hole, he had extended his advantage to three shots, but Fichardt mounted a late charge, narrowing the gap to just one stroke by the 16th green. However, Hollick's clutch putting, including a crucial 30-foot par-putt, allowed him to stay ahead.
Acknowledging Fichardt's challenge, Hollick expressed gratitude for the intense battle they had on the course. Fichardt's final-round 68 showcased his skill and determination, marked by a series of birdies after recovering from an early bogey. Despite Fichardt's relentless pursuit, Hollick's consistent play, including a crucial birdie on the penultimate hole, secured his victory by two strokes.
In addition to the top contenders, other players made notable performances, with Scott Vincent finishing third on the leaderboard, followed closely by Kieran Vincent and Fredrik From. The event saw a strong showing from Zimbabwean golfers, with Benjamin Follett-Smith and MJ Viljoen also featuring prominently in the top ten.
