McIlroy, Lowry Both Record Hole-in-Ones at Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Posted : 31 January 2025

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry both made impressive hole-in-ones during the opening round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, showcasing their skill on the PGA Tour. McIlroy, starting on the back nine at Spyglass Hill, recorded the second ace of his career at the par-three 15th.

Describing the shot, McIlroy noted the challenge of watching the ball in the air, unsure of whether to cheer for it to go or sit. His wedge shot landed perfectly and disappeared into the hole, a moment he celebrated with his playing partners and caddies.

Later on Thursday, Shane Lowry followed suit with a hole-in-one at the famous seventh hole at Pebble Beach. Lowry's tee shot, landing on the green, rolled straight into the hole, causing him to leap in disbelief.

This ace marked Lowry's third hole-in-one on the PGA Tour, having previously achieved similar feats at the 2016 Masters and the 2022 Players Championship. Both players ended the day tied for eighth place with a six-under-par 66, just two shots behind the leader, Russell Henley.

The first two rounds of the Pro-Am are being played across both Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill courses. McIlroy’s hole-in-one came at the 119-yard hole at Spyglass Hill, where his ball went straight into the cup off the flag without touching the green.

Henley, the current leader, holds a one-shot advantage heading into the second round. Justin Rose, alongside other contenders, is one shot behind Henley, while world number one Scottie Scheffler, returning from a hand injury, is three shots off the lead after a five-under 67.
