McIlroy Faces Quick Turnaround After US Open Heartbreak, Set for Travelers Championship

Rory McIlroy is set to compete in the Travelers Championship this week, despite the crushing defeat he just suffered at the US Open. Listed in the initial field announced on Monday, McIlroy will be looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss.

 

At the US Open, McIlroy had a golden opportunity to claim his fifth major title after a decade of chasing it. However, his dream came crashing down on the final day. Three bogeys in the last four holes, including two missed short putts, saw him lose to Bryson DeChambeau by a single stroke. The defeat was so demoralizing that McIlroy left the course immediately after DeChambeau's winning putt.

 

Despite the recent disappointment, McIlroy is scheduled to address the media in a pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, following his pro-am at the Travelers Championship. This PGA Tour event, held at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, is the final signature event of the season and offers a unique format - all 72 players will compete for all four rounds, regardless of their performance.
