USA’s Myriah Massey and Lily Davis will face Spain’s Sofia Izuzquiza and Marta Carro in the women’s final of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships in Shangluo, China on Sunday. Both teams had to navigate two intense tie-breakers to reach the final, showcasing their resilience and determination. Massey and Davis overcame Belgium’s Ines Piret and Annelore Bex 2-1 (18-21, 21-18, 15-9) in the quarterfinals and then edged out their American rivals Sally Perez and Sarah Wood 2-1 (12-21, 21-19, 15-5) in the semifinals.
Izuzquiza and Carro also demonstrated their ability to bounce back, starting with a quarterfinal comeback against Switzerland’s Muriel Bossart and Livia Stolz, winning 2-1 (15-21, 21-15, 15-11). In their semifinal, they secured a 2-1 (21-14, 13-21, 15-10) victory over Thailand’s Varagkhana Sogalee and Somruedee Koedkaew. Both teams will be looking to capitalize on their strong performances as they face off for the championship.
Earlier on Saturday, Varagkhana and Somruedee clinched a 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) win over Australia’s Jasmine Rayner and Cameron Zajer, while Perez and Wood secured a 2-0 (21-14, 21-17) victory against France’s Saofe Duval and Romane Sobezalz. These results set up a bronze medal match between Thailand and the USA’s Perez and Wood on Sunday.
