Posted : 16 November 2023
Mark Allen, the defending champion of the UK Championship, has expressed his belief that players have a significant role in shaping the future of snooker. Despite recently apologizing for criticizing the World Snooker Tour and acknowledging that the sport was in "disarray," Allen maintains that changes are needed and should be led by the players.
The world number four emphasized the importance of top players to the survival of the game and stated that snooker is currently far from realizing its full potential. Allen expressed a willingness to engage in discussions with decision-makers to find amicable solutions.
The 37-year-old, who clinched the Northern Ireland Open, UK Championship, and World Grand Prix titles last season, was named the World Snooker Tour Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season. As he prepares to defend his UK Championship title in York later this month, Allen reflects on the past 12 months as the best of his career. Despite a challenging start to the season, he remains ambitious, aiming for the top spot in the world rankings and the title of world champion. Allen believes that these goals are now within reach, emphasizing his determination to work hard and achieve them.
Expressing his desire to be world number one and world champion, Allen sees these aspirations as the ultimate goals he envisioned since he started playing snooker at the age of 12. He acknowledges the competitive field but remains confident that with continued hard work, he can attain these prestigious titles. Allen looks ahead to the upcoming tournaments, including the Champion of Champions, with the hope of finishing the season on a high note, building on the success of the past year.
