Marc Marquez anticipates enjoying riding again after switching teams

Posted : 19 October 2023
The future of Marc Marquez in 2024 is set with his transition to the Ducati satellite team, Gresini Racing, but beyond that remains uncertain. Marquez emphasized that he doesn't need to return to winning consistently to continue racing.

He mentioned that finding joy in racing will come from a different perspective, wanting to rediscover the excitement of riding and competing. Marc Marquez, the MotoGP superstar, clarified that "enjoying" doesn't necessarily equate to "winning" as he prepares to join the Ducati Gresini Racing Team, racing alongside his younger brother Alex, marking a significant shift from his long-standing partnership with Honda.

In an interview with TNT Sports during the Indonesian Grand Prix, Alex suggested that Marc is seeking to rekindle his enjoyment of racing, and if he doesn't find it, he might contemplate retirement. When asked about his brother's comments at the Australian Grand Prix on Philip Island, Marc expressed gratitude for his brother's support but underlined that enjoying racing doesn't imply a requirement to consistently achieve victories.

He emphasized that the primary objective is to savor the experience of riding, understanding the bike beyond merely securing top positions. While winning is not the sole focus, the main target is to consistently enjoy the sport, irrespective of rankings. Alex disclosed that he had discussions with Marc regarding the decision, pointing out that in his view, the change was necessary since Marc seemed to have lost his passion and joy, notably after a podium finish at Motegi where he appeared unhappy.

Therefore, Alex recommended the transition to a smaller team, not implying a lack of professionalism but rather the close-knit and family-like atmosphere that could help Marc rediscover his passion for racing. Marc's one-year contract is essentially a trial period to assess if he can rekindle his enjoyment, and he informed Alex that retirement remains a possibility if that doesn't materialize.
