Lydia Ko claimed victory at the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore, securing a four-shot win over Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul and Japan's Ayaka Furue. The world number three and Olympic champion had previously finished as runner-up in the event back in 2015, but this time, she dominated the final round on the Tanjong Course at Sentosa Golf Club.
Starting with a narrow one-shot lead, Ko quickly extended her advantage with three consecutive birdies from the sixth hole, maintaining control despite a bogey on the 11th.
The New Zealander continued her strong performance, responding to her setback with birdies on the 13th and 15th holes. A late bogey on the 17th did little to disrupt her march to victory, as she comfortably finished with a par on the 18th to secure her 23rd LPGA title with a 13-under-par total of 275.
Reflecting on her triumph, Ko admitted she had dreamt of winning the night before but stayed focused on the challenge at hand. She expressed her gratitude for the support she has received in Singapore over the years and was thrilled to add "Asia’s Major" to her list of career achievements.
Thitikul continued her remarkable consistency with a second consecutive top-three finish, having placed third in Thailand the previous week. The 22-year-old emphasized the importance of maintaining her form to stay competitive on the LPGA Tour.
Meanwhile, Furue delivered her strongest performance in recent tournaments, closing with a round of 68. The 24-year-old Japanese golfer was pleased with her result, acknowledging that it marked a significant improvement in her season.
