After an eventful, entertaining, and healthy competition at the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) End-of-Year Sports Fiesta held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, Team Strength emerged as the overall champions.
The men and women led by Grand (Matron) Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi-Eko, Director Public Affairs, and Grand (Patron) Elder Omoloju Oluwasegun, Director Administration and Human Resources, performed excellently in all the games, showcasing their dominance to remain on top of the medals table.
All the teams, with the support of their matrons and patrons, demonstrated resilience and sportsmanship attributes by competing fairly in a serene environment created by the top management of the LSSC, led by the Director-General, Oluwatoyin Gafaar.
History was made as Team Strength became the first side to win the highest number of gold medals in a sports fiesta with their mantra of "Stronger2gether," coined to promote and encourage strong ethical values and a sense of integrity among the staff members.
Games such as Catch the Train, Egg Race, Volleyball, Badminton, and Tug O'War finals were all competed for.
Another interesting highlight was the grit and zeal displayed in the volleyball final between Team Strength and Team Commitment, shaking the floor and leaving spectators amazed, which later ended in favor of the team in yellow attire.
Team Strength, with 44 points, scooped 7 gold, 10 silver, and 3 bronze medals; Team Unity garnered 38 points, 6 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze medals, while Team Commitment scored 36 points, going home with a total of 6 gold, 4 silver, and 10 bronze medals.
The last team at the bottom was Team Peace, which settled for 3 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze medals with an accumulated 20 points.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, presented medals to the winners in the different sports.
The overall champions were presented with a giant trophy and other prizes during the grand ceremony held at the volleyball court, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
