Former Major champion Louis Oosthuizen is set to defend his title at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, aiming to become just the third player ever to achieve this feat. The tournament will take place at Leopard Creek from December 12 to 15, and Oosthuizen has confirmed his participation in this co-sanctioned event between the Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour.
He will face strong competition from fellow South African golfers, including Thriston Lawrence, who is currently the highest-ranked South African at 50th in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Oosthuizen clinched last year's Alfred Dunhill Championship with a two-stroke victory in an exciting final round against Charl Schwartzel. His successful return this December puts him in the running to join an elite group of golfers who have defended their titles, which includes Schwartzel and Spain's Pablo Martin. Schwartzel accomplished this back-to-back win in 2012 and 2013, while Martin did so in 2009 and 2010.
Expressing his excitement about returning to Leopard Creek, Oosthuizen remarked that the Alfred Dunhill Championship is one of the most significant events in his golfing calendar. He has always appreciated the beauty of the course and felt a sense of accomplishment after winning last year, particularly after finishing as runner-up twice in previous tournaments.
Oosthuizen emphasized that this championship holds special meaning for him, as it combines his passion for golf with his appreciation for the unique wildlife and natural beauty surrounding Leopard Creek.
