Louis de Jager, showcasing his seasoned skills, posted impressive rounds of 65 and 67 to reach 12-under-par at the Vodacom Origins of Golf Highland Gate Mpumalanga event. Despite his strong performance, he holds only a one-shot lead after the second round, with fellow veteran Jean Hugo close behind. Hugo, a seasoned competitor with over 450 Sunshine Tour appearances, recorded rounds of 66 and 67 to sit at 11-under-par, setting up a tight race for the final round.
Kyle de Beer, the standout rookie of the tour this season, is in contention with a score of 10-under-par after carding a 70 on Saturday. This marks a notable achievement for de Beer, who is competing in just his 25th Sunshine Tour event, demonstrating his potential and skill at a high level.
De Jager's round began on the 10th hole, where he initially struggled but found his form with birdies on the par-four 16th and par-five 18th. His front nine performance included birdies on the par-three third, and the par-four sixth and ninth holes, with a notable eagle on the challenging par-five fifth, which spans over 600 yards and plays into the wind.
As the tournament heads into its final round, De Jager faces stiff competition from a tightly packed leaderboard. Luke Brown, with rounds of 67 and 68, is on nine-under-par, while Jacques Blaauw, leading the Order of Merit, and seasoned players Martin Rohwer and Nikhil Rama are all tied at eight-under-par. Additionally, three Sunshine Ladies Tour golfers made the cut, with Danielle du Toit and Gabrielle Venter tied for 35th, and Lora Assad tied for 47th.
