Posted : 05 May 2024

Louis Albertse dominated the inaugural Waterfall City Tournament of Champions powered by Attacq, clinching a convincing seven-stroke victory and claiming the coveted R1 million prize at Royal Johannesburg on Sunday.

His exceptional performance included a final round of 64, culminating in a total score of 23 under par 265, showcasing remarkable composure and skill throughout the weekend. Reflecting on his triumph, Albertse expressed gratitude for his hard work paying off and emphasized the satisfaction of achieving such a remarkable result in a challenging sport.

Sunshine Ladies Tour professional Casandra Alexander and Welsh pro Rhys Enoch shared the runner-up position, finishing on 16 under par with final rounds of 68. Meanwhile, GolfRSA star Altin van der Merwe emerged as the leading amateur, concluding the tournament on eight under par.

The event, designed to honor champions from the Sunshine Tour, Sunshine Ladies Tour, and South African amateur golf, underscored Albertse's prowess as he continued his stellar form from the previous season, securing third place on the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit.

Alexander's standout performance, particularly her remarkable second-round 61, showcased the strength of South African women's professional golf. While Albertse dominated the leaderboard, David Watts and Daniel Slabbert shared top honors in a separate competition organized for the South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA).

Watts and Slabbert both finished on four over par, each displaying admirable resilience and skill over the course of the tournament. Thomas Abt, Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour, expressed satisfaction with the event's outcome, highlighting the support from Waterfall City and Attacq in promoting golf and nurturing future champions.
