Lottie Woad Aims to Defend ANWA Title After Breakthrough Year in 2024

Posted : 02 April 2025

Lottie Woad had a breakthrough year in 2024, with her victory at the Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA) marking the highlight. The 21-year-old English amateur made history as the first European to win the prestigious event, which set the stage for a series of remarkable achievements.

Her success at Augusta led to her participation in major tournaments, including her first Women's Open, where she finished joint 10th, and her triumph with the England team in the Curtis Cup. Woad's dedication and hard work paid off as she ended the year as the world’s number-one ranked amateur.

Her Augusta victory was a tense and memorable moment, especially on the iconic 12th hole, a par-three that has tripped up many golfers, including Tiger Woods. Despite a nervous start, Woad kept her composure and finished strong with three birdies in her final four holes to secure the win.

This victory set her on a path to compete in her first major championships, where she gained valuable experience. Notably, she made the cut at the Chevron Championship, further proving her capabilities on the global stage.

Looking ahead, Woad is considering the possibility of turning professional, although she is taking a measured approach to the decision. Currently on an LPGA pathway, she is aiming to accumulate 20 points, which she could achieve through successful performances in major tournaments.

With eight consecutive top-three finishes, Woad is progressing steadily, though she faces tough competition, including from her Florida State University teammate Mirabel Ting. As she heads into the upcoming ANWA, Woad is determined to defend her title, feeling confident with her coach Steve Robinson by her side.
