The National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) announced on Friday that it has concluded arrangements to host giants from the U.S., U.K., South Africa, Botswana, Ghana, and others in the lottery and gaming industry for the first international Gaming Conference in Nigeria.
Magnus Ekechukwu, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at NLRC, disclosed that the event will be held in Lagos.
"The two-day conference will take place at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 31 and November 1," he said.
Providing an update on the preparations for the global conference, Lanre Gbajabiamila, the Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, revealed that the commission has made all the necessary arrangements for a successful conference.
He mentioned that elevating the gaming conference, which started in 2021, to an international standard is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
"This is based on a higher effectiveness in all sectors of government for improved governance, increased resources, and a better life for all Nigerians. The NLRC is fully committed to this agenda, and we will spare no effort in our determination to make the lottery a significant revenue generator for the country," Gbajabiamila said.
Ekechukwu further stated that since taking office, Gbajabiamila has significantly grown the lottery industry in Nigeria, making a greater impact in its regulatory mandate and increasing the funds going to the Federal Government's coffers.
"The commission achieved over one billion Naira in internally generated revenue (IGR) as a result of Gbajabiamila's pragmatic leadership. The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Zephaniah Jisalo, is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour.
Also, Mr. Sam Awulu, the Director General of the National Lottery Authority of Ghana, will deliver the keynote address at the conference, which is scheduled to be attended by all the notable stakeholders, operators, and players in the industry in the country," he said.
Ekechukwu added, "There will be goodwill messages from Sen. Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Youth and Sports; Hon. Ahmed Aliyu Abdulahi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs, and Dr. Bello Maigari, Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund.
Papers will be presented by eminent scholars, including Professor Rachel Volberg of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA.
The international conference will conclude with a Gala Night, during which outstanding operators and players in the lottery industry will receive awards in various categories," he concluded.
