Lawmakers line up Sports superstars for foundation laying of world-class Sports Academy in Kaduna

The Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, Honourable Ekene Abubakar Adams, declared on Thursday his readiness to fulfill his campaign promise of establishing a world-class Sports Academy in his constituency.

According to the lawmaker representing Chikun/Kajuru Federal constituency, Hon. Adams, the foundation laying stone of the sports facility will be graced by Gianni Infantino, the boss of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), Nigeria Football Federation President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho, and World Cup legends Zinadine Zidane, Ronaldo de Lima, Tiger Woods, and Serena Williams.

Other notable figures expected to attend the event in Kaduna, on a yet-to-be-decided date, include President of Remo Stars Hon. Kunle Soname, President FC Ebedei Barrister Churchill Oliseh, and other top stakeholders who will provide advice on the academy's development.

African legends and Super Eagles stars like Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto, Elhadji Diouf, Austin Okocha, Garba Lawal, Daniel Amokachi, Peter Rufai, Victor Ikpeba, and many others are also anticipated to participate.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has given approval for the project, allocating 25 hectares of land for the establishment of a Mini Stadium to host the Sports Academy within the Chikun/Kajuru Federal constituency, aiming to make Kaduna a hub for sports business.

Honourable Ekene Abubakar Adams, an astute football administrator and former General Manager of NPFL side Remo Stars, revealed that the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development has incorporated the project into its 2024 budget, signaling imminent commencement.

Expressing his gratitude, Adams acknowledged Governor Uba Sani's support for the project and emphasized the goal of using school sports to engage the youth and curb social issues. He highlighted the forthcoming visit of FIFA President and other sports icons as a catalyst for changing the youth's orientation.

Mrs Bello El-Rufai, Chief Consultant of the project and wife of the Kaduna North Federal Constituency Rep Member, assured that the Sports Academy would be a world-class facility, with professionals ensuring its successful establishment.

During his 2023 election campaign, Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams pledged to establish a Sports Academy in the region, demonstrating his commitment to fulfilling electoral promises.
