Lauren Coughlin secured her first LPGA victory on Sunday at the CPKC Women's Open in Calgary, achieving the win in her 103rd career start. With a decisive performance in the final holes at Earl Grey Golf Club, Coughlin made two crucial birdies on the par-5 15th and the par-3 17th, closing with a 1-under-par 71 and finishing the tournament at 13-under 275.
The win came after a tense finish where Coughlin outpaced Japan's Mao Saigo by two strokes and South Korea's Haeran Ryu by three. The three players were tied at the top as they approached the final holes, but Coughlin's steady play under pressure ensured her victory. Ryu, who had led for much of the tournament, fell to a tie for third with Jenny Shin after a challenging finish.
Coughlin’s key moment came on the 17th hole, where she perfectly executed a difficult shot to set up a makeable birdie putt. Despite the pressure and a challenging club selection, she managed to roll in the putt, securing her lead. Ryu's performance faltered with a bogey at the same hole, part of a final stretch of three consecutive bogeys that cost her the lead.
The day’s spotlight was on Coughlin, who managed to maintain her composure throughout the round. Although she was 1 over par through 14 holes, her patience and consistent play paid off as she remained in contention and ultimately clinched the title. Jennifer Kupcho finished fifth at 8 under, while Rose Zhang tied for sixth with Russia’s Nataliya Guseva.
