Posted : 08 October 2024

The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has announced that the second phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024 will be held from November 25 to December 9 in Lagos.

The Secretary General of the HFN, Almu Umar Lambu, made the announcement in a letter to the clubs.

He stated that the arrival date for the top-tier handball league is Tuesday, November 26, 2024, while matches will commence the next day, Wednesday, November 27.

Lambu also advised that the 22 participating teams should begin their player registrations ahead of the league in earnest before the commencement of the second phase.

"The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) is pleased to inform you that the second phase of the 2024 Ardova Handball Premier League will take place from November 26 to December 9 in Lagos, Lagos State."

"The participating teams are advised to begin their player registrations in earnest and must make all necessary arrangements to plan their arrival and departure within the period mentioned above," Lambu said.

The Ardova Handball Premier League is the top-tier handball league and the biggest handball competition in the country, comprising 22 teams (12 male and 10 female teams).

It consists of two phases, with the first phase taking place around May 2024 in Benin City, Edo State, while the upcoming second phase is in Lagos, where the league winners in both categories will be unveiled.

Tojemarine Academy of Lagos, which finished second in the 2023 league season, is the current league leader in the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024 after completing the first phase in Benin City, Edo State, with 33 points. Rima Strikers of Sokoto is in second place, and defending champion Niger United is in third position in the male category.

Tojemarine Academy has much to prove in the second phase of the league against the likes of Niger United, Rima Strikers, and even former champion Kano Pillars.

In the female category, defending champion Safety Babes, who were last defeated in the Ardova Handball Premier League in 2022, is leading the pack with 27 points, three points ahead of Defender Babes, who are currently in second position in the women’s category.

There is still everything to play for, as Safety Babes will make history as the first team to win the league for an unprecedented fourth time in the women’s category, while Tojemarine Academy is determined to win the league for the first time in their history.
