The proprietor of Abesan Junior Volleyball Academy, Ekanem Yellowduke-Okoduwa, announced on Tuesday that all arrangements are in place for the maiden edition of the Junior Volleyball Fiesta, scheduled for December 30 in Lagos.
Okoduwa stated in an exclusive interview in Lagos that the fiesta's primary goal is to inspire young athletes at the grassroots level.
She further emphasized the objective to elevate the sport's popularity to match that of football and make a positive impact on the community and youth as a whole.
"This is a sport I am passionate about," she declared. "I want to inspire a multitude of young individuals to utilize volleyball as a tool for developing fundamental life skills and nurturing their talents to stardom."
"I personally played for various clubs throughout my teenage years and adulthood, and developing my skills and talents brought out the best in me," she recounted.
"I have played for clubs like UNILAG VC (proudly an alumni), Legacy Volleyball Club, Unity Volleyball Club, Hitsquad Volleyball Club, and Total Volleyball Club, to name a few," she added.
Okoduwa revealed that the lack of competitions for junior volleyball players in Lagos inspired the initiative to organize a tournament specifically for under-17 boys and girls.
"The goal is to bring them together to showcase their talents, inspire them, promote sportsmanship, and foster the growth of volleyball at the grassroots level," she explained.
"It's a moment of joy when you get to exhibit what you've learned after months of training, and I am firmly convinced that budding talents will be discovered," she concluded.
