Tiger Woods made his highly anticipated debut in the TGL on Tuesday, entering the venue to the iconic tune of "Eye of the Tiger," but his team, Jupiter Links Golf Club, was outmatched in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) dominated the match, winning 12-1 in the second-ever event of the new simulated golf league. Woods, alongside teammates Max Homa and Kevin Kisner, faced off against Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, and Justin Rose from LAGC, as the event took place at the SoFi Center on the campus of Palm Beach State College.
Despite the tough loss, Woods' son Charlie tried to lift the team's spirits with what Homa described as a "pep talk," although it consisted mainly of Charlie pointing out that their performance was lacking. Woods managed to secure Jupiter Links' only point with a solid approach shot on the sixth hole, but the LAGC players dominated the match overall.
Woods' drive on the second hole ended up in a simulated water hazard, adding to the challenges of the day, and he admitted afterward that he wasn’t sure how the shot went so far off course.
The match concluded with an impressive eagle by Theegala on the par-5 15th hole, sealing the victory for LAGC. The TGL's next matches will feature New York Golf Club facing off against Atlanta Drive Golf Club on January 21, followed by Jupiter Links taking on Boston Common Golf on January 27, and Boston playing against LAGC on February 4. The Bay Golf Club had previously won the opening match 9-2 against New York Golf Club.
