Ladi Salako, playing with a handicap of 20, emerged as the winner after returning a gross score of 82 and a net score of 62 at the recently concluded third edition of the Abula International Invitational Golf Tournament held at Nibanola Golf Resort, Km. 6, Ondo Ore Road, Ondo State.
Patience Ekwere of Tiger Golf Club Ibadan won in the ladies' category with a net score of 62, while Bose Meroyi emerged as the first runner-up with net scores of 66, and Folashade Ajala got the best gross with a gross score of 87 in the ladies' categories.
In the men’s category, Talabi Bunmi Albert, with a handicap of 25, became the first runner-up with a gross score of 89 (64 net), and Ojuolape Olatunji, with a handicap of 9, ended up as the second runner-up with a gross score of 73 (net 64). The best gross winner is Ladejobi Kunle with a handicap of 7 and a gross score of 70, while Iyare Peters, with a net score of 65, won the third runner-up.
The unique golf event, tagged “Abula Promax” this year, was designed by Mary Okunola, former Lady Captain of Ibadan Golf Club, with the aim to celebrate our cultural heritage using golf. It was supported this year by Golfview Hotels, Suites, and Conference Centre, Oak Pensions, ADL Solutions, and Value Jet.
She revealed this while speaking during the closing ceremony where a beauty pageant was held as part of activities designed for the 3rd edition, thanking golfers who came to Ondo State from across the country to participate in the tourney and experience the diverse and rich cultural recipe of Nigeria with the abula delicacy.
The Committee members for the 2024 edition of Abula Golf Tourney included Okunola Mary, who is the facilitator, Mr. Shakin Labeodan, the Chairman of the committee, Mr. Festus Idehen, who was the LOC Chairman 2.0, Mr. Biodun Lawani, LOC Chairman 3.0, Evang. Dolapo Okunola, the promoter of the event, with Segun Benson and Bernard Nduka as the public relations men for the tourney.
