Kylie Henry triumphs in Dimension Data Ladies Pro-Am despite challenging conditions

Posted : 18 February 2024

Navigating challenging crosswinds at the Montague fairways during the Dimension Data Ladies Pro-Am at Fancourt, Kylie Henry secured a two-stroke victory on Sunday. Starting the final round two strokes behind, Henry weathered the conditions, going out in one-over-par 37.

A series of six successive pars on the back nine brought her level with Ana Dawson, the leader after the first two rounds. Seizing the opportunity as Dawson struggled with crucial putts, Henry secured victory with key birdies on the par-four 16th and 18th holes. This marked her first professional win since 2014, overcoming personal and golf-related challenges in recent years.

The 37-year-old Scottish golfer expressed her joy at returning to the winner's podium after a tough period. Reflecting on the victory, Henry highlighted the tricky conditions on the back nine with crosswinds, emphasizing the need to commit to shots.

Maintaining her focus and sinking crucial putts, she navigated the challenges effectively. Going into the final round tied for second with Alexandra Swayne, Henry's steady performance contrasted with Swayne's struggles on the back nine, finishing tied for ninth.

While Dawson remained a contender until the final hole, a challenging drive into the trees and subsequent challenges left her with a bogey-six, securing a tie for third with Romy Meekers. Lee-Anne Pace, a local stalwart, made a strong push on the final day, shooting a level-par 72 and finishing in second place on one-under-par.

Despite Pace's impressive performance, Kylie Henry's consistent play and strategic birdies secured her a well-deserved victory in the tournament.
