Kogi State Handball court gathers momentum as govt. pledges more support

Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Aridaojo Anyebe, has conducted an inspection tour of the Standard Handball Court under construction by the Chairman of the Kogi State Handball Association, Jibril Ojih Saidu (FNIQS), at the Popular Phase Two Sports Complex in Lokoja.

The young, dedicated, and hardworking commissioner was guided around the project by officials of the Kogi State Handball Association, led by a veteran tactician of the game, Coach Omada Ene-Ojo.

Coach Ene-Ojo thanked Jibril Ojih Saidu (FNIQS) for taking it upon himself to personally oversee the construction of a Standard Handball Court in the state capital.

The commissioner assured the chairman that the Ministry of Youth and Sports, under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, would provide all necessary support for the timely completion of the court.

To demonstrate his commitment, Honourable Aridaojo Anyebe directed the Permanent Secretary, Director of Sports Development, and Director of Facilities in the Ministry to work closely with the project supervisor to ensure successful and timely completion.

The commissioner also used the opportunity to speak out against deforestation, encouraging the massive planting of trees, which he believes will greatly benefit the climate.

He stated that once fully completed, the Standard Handball Court would engage the youth, reduce crime and anti-social vices, and boost the sport of handball in the state.

Coach Omada, representing the Chairman of the Kogi State Handball Association, informed the commissioner that one of the reasons the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Handball Association had passionately embarked on the project was to engage the youth and keep them away from criminal activities.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for granting him the privilege to contribute to the development of handball and sports in the state.

The chairman informed the commissioner that arrangements are already in place for an Open Handball Championship, tagged "ODODO CUP," which will be held on the new court as soon as it is completed. Other states will also participate in the championship.
