A strong field of competitors, including Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy, will compete in the US PGA Championship's final round on Sunday. Two-time winner Brooks Koepka holds a one-shot lead.
The 2018 and 2019 champion, American Koepka, shot a four-under 66 in the pouring rain to get to six under for the round.
At five under par at New York, Viktor Hovland and Corey Conners sit one back and two shots clear of Bryson DeChambeau.
Rose, Scottie Scheffler, and McIlroy are all four back, while Rose is five behind.
Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, who won the last of his four major championships at this event in 2014, frequently struggled with his own swing and difficult on-course conditions as he pushed to remain in the running.
"It's funny, I was a little more accepting of the ball going in the rough today, and I actually hit more fairways because of it," he said.
"It just goes to show if you have a little more of a carefree attitude, it seems to work out a little bit better."
The third-ranked player in the world made a strong start, making two birdies in his opening five holes, but three bogeys in his following four holes put his round in jeopardy.
