Keenan Davidse Leads After Strong Opening Round at Betway Big Easy Tour

Stellenbosch Golf Club’s Keenan Davidse is gradually regaining his confidence, evidenced by his impressive opening round of 67 in the third tournament of the Betway Big Easy Tour at Glenvista Country Club. This is his second consecutive start on the Sunshine Tour feeder circuit as he prepares for the main Tour challenges. In his first Betway Big Easy Tour start this season at Modderfontein Golf Club, Davidse opened with consecutive rounds of 67 before a final round of 73 led him to finish third.

 

Davidse attributes his recent performance to solid mental resilience and acknowledges that his putting needs improvement. Reflecting on his performance, Davidse said, “I played decently today. I just need to get over that little hurdle, stay focused and humble. I’m playing really well but just need to find the hole somehow.” He remains optimistic about his game, recognizing the challenging conditions at Glenvista Country Club, particularly the firm course and the wind.

 

Leading by a stroke, Davidse is ahead of Christian Kriek, England’s Joe Knox, Slade Pickering, and Zambia’s Dayne Moore, who are all tied for second. Henning Du Plooy, Jaden Deltel, Leon Vorster, Keanu Pestana, Reece McKain, and Stals Swart are tied for sixth after each shooting rounds of 69. Kriek expressed relief at his performance, stating, “It’s great to have a good round under the belt. I’ve been struggling a bit lately, and it’s good to finally get some confidence back. The greens are so fast here, so I tried to keep the ball in play and give myself opportunities.”

 

Jacquin Hess and Adriel Poonan, also members of the Papwa Sewgolum Class, finished the day tied for 17th with rounds of one-under-par 71. The Betway Big Easy Tour serves as the Sunshine Tour’s developmental circuit, enjoying support from legendary figures like Ernie Els. As the tournament progresses, Davidse and other competitors will look to build on their performances and advance in the rankings.
