Keegan Bradley Open to Tiger Woods’ Involvement as US Ryder Cup Captain

Posted : 25 July 2024

Keegan Bradley, recently appointed as the US Ryder Cup captain for 2025, has expressed openness to Tiger Woods' level of involvement with the team. Speaking at the US PGA Tour 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities, Bradley revealed that he had discussed Woods' potential role at the British Open. "I've told Tiger that I want him to be as involved as he wants to be," said Bradley, noting that with the British Open in progress, their discussions had not focused heavily on the Ryder Cup.

Bradley, 38, will lead the US team against Europe’s Luke Donald at the Ryder Cup, which will take place at Bethpage Black near New York. Although Woods had been in discussions with PGA of America officials about the captaincy, he ultimately decided against the role due to time constraints and ongoing commitments, including his recovery from a 2021 car crash and his involvement in the PGA Tour-LIV Golf merger talks.

Since his appointment, Bradley has been actively engaging with players, caddies, and others to gather feedback and insights on his plans for the Ryder Cup. Reflecting on his new role, he noted the positive response from the golf community and his excitement about working with his vice captain, Webb Simpson, who was announced earlier this week. Bradley described the process of assembling his vice captain team as "really fun" and therapeutic.

In addition to his Ryder Cup responsibilities, Bradley is using the role to help focus on his own game. With the Ryder Cup taking up much of his mental space, he has found it easier to separate himself from the pressures of his regular golf career. Bradley sees this as an opportunity to benefit both his team and his personal performance as he prepares for the upcoming challenges.
