Keegan Bradley Leads U.S. to Tenth Straight Presidents Cup Victory

Posted : 30 September 2024

Keegan Bradley secured a thrilling 1-up victory over South Korea's Kim Si-woo on Sunday, leading the United States to its tenth consecutive Presidents Cup win. With this victory, the U.S. team established an insurmountable 15.5-9.5 lead over the Internationals, even with singles matches still in progress at Royal Montreal. This latest triumph boosts the Americans' impressive record to 13-1-1 in the competition against the non-European global squad, which has only won once in the history of the event, back in 1998.

Reflecting on his win, Bradley expressed his excitement and disbelief, noting how significant this victory felt for him personally. “Wow, that was incredible,” he said, emphasizing his gratitude for participating in the tournament and clinching a point for his team. The last time he played in a high-stakes tournament in 2014, he faced immense pressure, being the point that could have cost the U.S. the Ryder Cup. As he prepares to captain the U.S. Ryder Cup team next year, Bradley was particularly pleased with his performance in what may be his final appearance as a player.

Throughout the match, Bradley showed resilience, notably birdieing the 14th hole to take a commanding 3-up lead. However, he faced challenges on the 16th and 17th holes, missing crucial putts that allowed Kim to push the match to the final hole. On the 18th, both players had putts to secure the match, but when Kim missed a vital putt, the Americans celebrated their victory. Bradley acknowledged the nerves he felt at the end but was proud of the team's overall performance throughout the tournament.

The U.S. team had already built momentum by winning both the foursomes and four-ball sessions on Saturday with a score of 3-1 in each. To clinch the trophy, they needed just 4.5 points in singles matches. The Americans got off to a strong start, with Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler making significant birdies early on. Other standout performances included Sam Burns, who remained unbeaten throughout the week, and Patrick Cantlay, who delivered a solid 3&1 victory, bringing the team even closer to securing the cup. The collective effort from the U.S. squad, featuring many of the top-ranked players in the world, showcased their dominance in this prestigious tournament.
