Justin Rose and Antoine Rozner lead at six under par in second British Masters round

Posted : 01 July 2023
Justin Rose and Antoine Rozner share the lead at six under par after the second round of the British Masters at the Belfry, as Rose made a strong recovery from a slow start.

Despite four bogeys in his first 10 holes, Rose managed to salvage his round with four birdies, signing for a one-over-par 73 and keeping himself in contention for a second title at this event. Starting the day with a one-shot lead following a first-round 65, Rose previously won the British Masters in 2002.

Reflecting on his performance, Rose described the day as tough, with a strange start where he didn't feel like he was hitting poor shots but ended up three-putting the first hole. He acknowledged the challenging nature of the course, known for producing high winning scores.

Despite making mistakes and being four over par at one point, Rose was delighted to bring it back and finish at six under. He felt generally satisfied with his play, except for three three-putts and a couple of errors, considering the difficult conditions.

Rose mentally readjusted during his round, reminding himself that he could make three birdies in the last seven holes, and he managed to achieve that.

His strong finish left him in a great position after 36 holes, feeling confident about his performance and looking forward to dinner. Rose and Rozner hold a one-shot lead over seven players, including defending champion Thorbjorn Olesen, Andy Sullivan, John Gough, James Morrison, and Oliver Wilson.

Sullivan, from Nuneaton, played well, avoiding a fine despite a frustrated outburst on the 11th hole. He carded an impressive 68 and moved into contention for his fifth DP World Tour title.

Reflecting on his round, Sullivan expressed satisfaction with his performance and the momentum he gained after his slip-up on the 11th hole. He enjoyed the support of the local crowd and felt energized by their cheers throughout the day, attributing his solid play to the positive atmosphere.
