French golfer Julien Guerrier celebrated his first European Tour victory at the Andalucia Masters, defeating local favorite Jorge Campillo in an extraordinary ninth sudden-death playoff hole on Sunday. Both players finished the tournament tied at 21-under par, leading to a gripping playoff that saw them par eight consecutive holes.
In a tense showdown, Guerrier secured the win by sinking an eight-foot par putt after Campillo recorded a bogey on the 18th hole, which they played for the sixth time during the playoff. Guerrier, ranked 207th in the world, expressed his joy after achieving this milestone on his 229th attempt at a European Tour title. "Jorge is a great player, I knew it would be very hard," he remarked. "I was trying to do my best and I'm very, very happy."
Both Guerrier and Campillo started the final round tied at the top of the leaderboard, each finishing with a two-under 70. Campillo's hopes for victory were marred by a crucial bogey on the 18th hole during regulation play, which ultimately pushed him into the playoff that became the longest in European Tour history.
In the final standings, England's Daniel Brown secured third place, finishing two shots behind the leaders, while LIV Golf star Jon Rahm, a former world No. 1, ended the tournament in sixth place, four strokes off the pace. The intense battle between Guerrier and Campillo will be remembered for its remarkable length and competitiveness.
