Jordan Brown seeks to carry home hopes after Mark Allen's shocking defeat at Northern Ireland Open

Jordan Brown aims to continue the Northern Ireland Open's home dominance in Belfast, capitalizing on defending champion Mark Allen's shocking loss in the last 64 on Monday night.
The world No. 44 pulled off an impressive victory by defeating Australian icon Neil Robertson 4-1, while his close friend Allen's bid for a third consecutive triumph in Belfast was thwarted by Andres Petrov in a nail-biting 4-3 defeat settled on the final black.
Brown, who will face Yuan Sijun or Jamie Clarke in the last 32 on Wednesday, dedicated his victory to his late coach, Joe Bingham, who passed away in 2018. It was three years before Brown's remarkable triumph in the 2021 Welsh Open final when he, as a 750-1 outsider, defeated seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan with a 9-8 scoreline. Brown spoke emotionally about his coach, saying, "I'd like to dedicate this victory today to Joe Bingham; he was my coach and he passed away five years ago today. This one's for him."
Despite Robertson's brilliant 125-point performance in the fourth frame, Brown delivered a commanding win, limiting the Australian player to only 24 points in the other four frames. Brown expressed his elation, stating, "Beating an all-time great in Neil in front of my home crowd – it doesn't get better than that. I absolutely loved it out there; it was an amazing feeling. It's right up there with my best wins, even if Neil has not been in his best form. I just concentrated on myself, and I felt I was in control for most of the match. I got a bit nervy towards the end, but when I got another chance, I finished it off."
Notably, Brown and compatriot Robbie McGuigan remain strong contenders for the title, with teenager McGuigan set to face Anthony McGill in the last 64 on Tuesday evening. Brown's ambition is crystal clear, as he affirmed, "It would mean everything to have a long run here, not just for me but for my family and friends. I'm here to win the tournament; that's the bottom line. It's not big-headed because I know what I'm capable of."
