John Parry claimed a fairytale victory at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at Mont Choisy Le Golf on Sunday, securing the win on the day of his wedding anniversary. Starting the final round five shots behind the leader, Parry delivered an exceptional back nine performance, making four birdies and an eagle over his final seven holes.
His 64 in the last round brought him to 14 under par, two strokes ahead of South Africa's Christo Lamprecht and Dylan Naidoo, who finished in a tie for second at 12 under par.
Parry's triumph marks a remarkable comeback for the English golfer, who had previously won on the DP World Tour in 2010 but faced a period of struggle, even considering quitting the game.
Reflecting on his journey, Parry revealed that he was once playing on the Euro Pro Tour and at a low point in his career after winning his first DP World Tour event at 23. His victory in Mauritius represents the culmination of a long battle to return to the top, making this win particularly sweet for him.
This victory caps off an extraordinary year for Parry, who also won three times on the European Challenge Tour and finished second in the Alfred Dunhill Championship the week before his Mauritius triumph.
He admitted that, at the start of the year, he had never expected such success but embraced a mindset shift that focused on winning, rather than just hoping for it. Parry attributed his strong final round performance to a key moment—a chip-in eagle on the 12th hole—that sparked the momentum needed to seal his victory.
In addition to the win, Parry was crowned the winner of the DP World Tour's Opening Swing, earning a $200,000 bonus. The victory boosted his confidence for the upcoming year, as he reflected on the significance of proving to himself that he could succeed at this level. Parry is now looking ahead to 2025 with renewed optimism and a belief in his ability to compete at the highest level.
