Johannes Dale-Skjevdal: The fastest skier's breakthrough season in the BMW IBU World Cup

Posted : 09 February 2024

In the current BMW IBU World Cup season, Johannes Dale-Skjevdal stands out as the fastest skier, experiencing what he describes as the best season of his career. The Norwegian biathlete attributes his success to a focus on quality training over quantity during the summer, citing an increased maturity in his approach.

Notably, he acknowledges facing more sick days during the last training season, but this unexpected challenge allowed for longer breaks, ultimately contributing to his exceptional energy levels during the fall training.

Dale-Skjevdal credits his newfound speed in the World Cup to improvements in his technique, particularly in easy high-speed training. Despite previously being fast, he notes that this season's level of performance is unprecedented and consistent.

The athlete's dedication to refining his technique has paid off, evident in his impressive performances, notably in Ruhpolding, where he historically struggled.

Married last summer, Dale-Skjevdal expresses how settling into married life has brought stability and comfort, positively impacting his biathlon career. The sense of normalcy outside of biathlon contributes to his peace of mind, allowing him to compete at an exceptionally high level.

Regarding his longer name, a result of taking his wife Kristina's name, he shares that it is a common practice in Norway and reflects the couple's decision-making process in building alliances with friends.

Living within the competitive Norwegian team, Dale-Skjevdal acknowledges the intense competition within the squad, where every competition serves as a qualifying event to stay in the World Cup.

He emphasizes the high performance level within the team, exemplified by cases like Vebjoern Soerum achieving a podium in Oestersund but needing to return to the IBU Cup in 2024 due to limited spots.

Despite the tough competition, Dale-Skjevdal expresses gratitude for the high level he has achieved this season, enabling him to compete in the events of his choice.
