Joburg Open and Ladies Open bring world-class golf locally

The Joburg Open and Joburg Ladies Open are set to elevate the standard of professional golf in Johannesburg, showcasing elite male and female golfers from around the world. These prestigious tournaments aim to enhance the local golfing scene while attracting international attention to the sport.


In a significant update to the global golf calendar, the Joburg Open will now be part of the DP World Tour’s International Swing starting in 2025. This shift reflects the event's growing prestige and its alignment with international golfing standards.

Traditionally held in November, the Joburg Open has been rescheduled to take place from March 6 to March 9, 2025, at the renowned Houghton Golf Club. The change in date aligns with adjustments in the overall global golfing schedule and ensures that the tournament maintains its high profile.


The inclusion of the Joburg Open in the Sunshine Tour will strengthen its impact, making it the concluding co-sanctioned event of the season. This integration highlights the tournament's importance within South African golf.


Meanwhile, the Joburg Ladies Open will enhance Johannesburg’s rich golfing offerings. This co-sanctioned event between the Sunshine Ladies Tour and the Ladies European Tour is slated for April 3 to April 6, 2025, at Modderfontein Golf Club, boasting a total purse of €300,000.


Cllr Dada Morero, the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, emphasized the tournaments' role in promoting tourism and economic growth. He noted that these events not only showcase the city to a global audience but also serve as strategic tools to develop the sports tourism sector, reinforcing the city’s commitment to leveraging sports for economic benefits.


Both events signify a promising future for professional golf in Johannesburg, with leaders in the golfing community expressing enthusiasm about their upcoming editions. The synergy between local courses and international tours aims to create unforgettable experiences for players and fans alike, celebrating the city’s vibrant golf culture.
