United States captain Jim Furyk finalized his wildcard selections for the Presidents Cup on Tuesday, adhering strictly to team rankings for his final picks. With six spots available, Furyk chose to fill these positions based on the current standings, resulting in the inclusion of Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Russell Henley, Keegan Bradley, Brian Harman, and Max Homa. These players, ranked between 7th and 12th on the points table, round out the USA squad.
Keegan Bradley, who will also serve as the USA's captain for the Ryder Cup next year, had already been slated as an assistant captain for the Presidents Cup. His strong finish to the season, highlighted by a victory at the BMW Championship and a 21st-place finish at the Tour Championship, solidified his spot on the team. Furyk praised Bradley's recent performance, noting his competitive spirit and the positive impact he is expected to bring to the team at Royal Montreal.
Despite a recent dip in form, Max Homa secured his place as the 12th-ranked player. Furyk acknowledged Homa's recent struggles but highlighted his impressive performances in previous major events, including the 2022 Presidents Cup and the 2023 Ryder Cup. "Max plays his best on the biggest stages," Furyk said, emphasizing Homa's role as an emotional leader and his ability to inspire and rally the team.
As the United States aims to continue their unbeaten streak in the Presidents Cup, which has lasted two decades since their last loss in 1998, the team will rely on these selected players to maintain their dominance in the event. The Presidents Cup will take place from September 26-29 in Montreal.
