Jersey Reds halt operations, unable to fulfill Premiership Rugby Cup fixture
Posted : 28 September 2023
Jersey Reds, despite their recent triumph in the RFU Championship and a promising start in the Premiership Rugby Cup, have sadly ceased trading, facing inevitable liquidation due to financial challenges that afflict many English rugby clubs.
The club made this announcement just a day prior to their scheduled match against Cornish Pirates in the Premiership Rugby Cup.
The financial struggle in the sport has also affected other clubs, including Worcester Warriors, Wasps, and London Irish, who all grappled with financial difficulties.
Jersey Reds' chairman, Mark Morgan, expressed regret at their inability to secure new investors and acknowledged the significant impact this situation would have on players, coaches, and staff who have been dedicated contributors to the club.
Despite their successful Championship season last year, they were not promoted due to regulatory pauses, and their current financial woes have unfortunately disrupted their progress.
