Jeeno Thitikul Wins Historic LPGA Tour Championship

Posted : 25 November 2024

Thailand's Jeeno Thitikul secured her fourth career LPGA title with a dramatic victory at the season-ending Tour Championship in Naples, Florida. She sealed her triumph with a six-foot birdie putt on the final hole, finishing with a seven-under 65 to total 22-under 266 for the tournament. Her strong finish, which included an eagle on the 17th and a birdie on the 18th, capped off an impressive display of resilience under pressure, earning her the $4 million top prize.

Jeeno's eagle-birdie finish was the highlight of her final round, as she overcame a challenging back nine, which saw American Angel Yin applying pressure. Despite the high stakes, the 21-year-old Thai golfer remained focused, crediting her success to hard work paying off. Her second shot on the 18th and the clutch putt sealed the victory, marking a significant moment in her career.

In addition to the grand prize, Jeeno also received a $1 million bonus for her consistent performance on specific holes throughout the season, bringing her total earnings for the week to $5 million. Jeeno expressed excitement about her windfall, saying she plans to spend it while saving for her parents. Her win at Tiburon Golf Club added another major achievement to her already impressive career.

Lydia Ko finished in third place with a score of 271 after a final round of 63, while Yin took home $1 million for her runner-up finish. Top-ranked Nelly Korda, who was named LPGA Player of the Year after a seven-win season, shared fifth place with South Korea's An Na-rin. Despite her runner-up finish, Yin was optimistic about her game moving forward into the next season.
