Investec South African Women’s Open returns to Erinvale Country & Golf Estate

Posted : 19 April 2024

The Investec South African Women’s Open is set to grace the esteemed fairways of Erinvale Country & Golf Estate, enhancing the venue's rich championship history from April 25th to 28th. A highly competitive field comprising Sunshine Ladies Tour and Ladies European Tour professionals will vie for the prestigious title, adding another chapter to the storied legacy of South African women’s golf at this renowned venue.

Erinvale has been a witness to pivotal moments in South African golf history, having hosted the men’s Investec South African Open twice in 2003 and 2004, both claimed by Trevor Immelman. Notably, it also staged the inaugural Men’s World Cup of Golf in South Africa in 1996, won by the formidable duo of Ernie Els and Wayne Westner.

The inclusion of the Investec South African Women’s Open in Erinvale's roster of hosted events underscores the tournament's remarkable evolution, from a R250,000 competition in 2018 to its current stature as a €320,000 event on the Ladies European Tour schedule. Peta Dixon, head of sponsorships at Investec, emphasizes their commitment to advancing women’s golf, providing a platform for homegrown talents, and fostering inspiration for future generations through flagship events like the Women’s Open.

The tournament promises an exciting showdown, featuring formidable competitors like Lee-Anne Pace, who seeks her sixth Investec South African Women’s Open title, alongside other past champions and rising stars.

Additionally, this year's event offers a significant R1 million prize for the first professional to achieve a hole-in-one on the par-three 12th hole during the third or fourth round, further adding to the excitement and allure of the competition.

With legendary South African professional Sally Little championing initiatives to expand golf's reach among disadvantaged youth, the event not only celebrates sporting excellence but also serves as a beacon of inspiration and community engagement.
