India is heading into the sole rest day of the 45th Chess Olympiad as the leading team, holding the top position in both the open and women’s sections. Both teams have maintained a flawless record so far, demonstrating their dominance and strong potential for securing gold medals as they proceed through the tournament.
In Round 6, the games commenced with a notable move from young Argentinian talent Faustino Oro, who, at just ten years old and rated 2434, initiated the round for world champion Ding Liren. India continued its impressive performance by defeating Hungary 3-1, with Arjun Erigaisi maintaining a perfect score in the open section by winning against Sanan Sjugirov. Vidit Gujrathi also secured a win, while the games on the top two boards ended in draws.
Vietnam delivered a remarkable performance by drawing 2-2 with China, halting the latter’s winning streak. Uzbekistan faced a challenging encounter with Israel, where despite a loss from Sindarov, victories by Abdusattorov and Yakubboev ensured their match win. The USA struggled with four draws against Romania, failing to meet expectations.
In the women’s section, India continued its strong showing with a decisive win over Armenia, highlighted by Divya Deshmukh's victory over Elina Danielian. China, however, suffered a second consecutive loss to Poland, with Oliwia Kiolbasa emerging as the key player. Georgia edged past Mongolia, thanks to a crucial win by Melia Salome.
