India clinches perfect record with dominant win over Netherlands in Cricket World Cup

Posted : 12 November 2023
India showcased dominance against the Netherlands in their final Cricket World Cup group-stage match, securing a commanding 160-run victory, maintaining their unblemished record. Shreyas Iyer's unbeaten 128* and KL Rahul's 102 set a formidable total of 410-4. Despite the Dutch batsmen's promising starts, they were eventually dismissed for 250. Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Dutch faced an uphill battle against India's strong performance.

India's remarkable victory solidified their position as the team to beat at the 2023 Cricket World Cup, securing a perfect record of nine wins from nine matches. The 160-run triumph over the Netherlands, propelled by Iyer and Rahul's monumental centuries, showcased India's commanding form, particularly after winning the toss and opting to bat first. The Indian team swiftly reached 100 without losing a wicket.

Although the Indian batting lineup experienced a few setbacks, with Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma departing, the team stabilized. Virat Kohli's contribution further cemented India's dominance, reaching a comfortable position at 200-3. The pivotal partnership between Iyer and Rahul flourished, accumulating an impressive 208 runs in 21 overs before concluding on the penultimate ball of the innings.

Defending an imposing total, the Indian bowlers remained resolute. While the Dutch batsmen, including Max O'Dowd, Colin Ackermann, Sybrand Engelbrecht, and Teja Nidamanuru, displayed resilience, they couldn't elevate their run rate to challenge the hosts. Rohit Sharma's crucial dismissal of Nidamanuru in the 48th over sealed India's comprehensive victory. India's flawless progress sets up a semifinal clash against fourth-placed New Zealand, while Australia will confront South Africa in a significant semi-final matchup, echoing their iconic 1999 encounter at the same stage.
