Ilorin Golf Club is set to host this year’s edition of the Kwara Open Golf Championship. The event, which draws golfers from clubs across the country, will run from August 2nd to 4th, 2024.
The club’s Captain, Mr. Jide Allen, stated that while they await the over 180 competitors who have registered for the event, arrangements are in top gear to ensure a hitch-free competition, with golfers competing over 36 holes.
Competitors will arrive on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, for a welcome cocktail at the ultramodern Mohammed Lawal Club House ahead of the competition, which will officially tee off on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, at 9 a.m.
The ceremonial tee-off will be performed by the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who also serves as the club’s Patron.
The top 100 players from the first day will qualify to play on Sunday, August 4th, 2024, with the closing ceremony and presentation of prizes scheduled to follow at 7 p.m.
In his remarks, the event marketer, Barr. Luqman Owolewa, said that Sluqfort Nigeria Limited, the marketing outfit for the event, was able to attract numerous sponsors. Among them are the Kwara State Government, Emirate Global Hotels, Femtech IT, Momrota Pharmacy, and Rotamedics Pharmacy, among others.
He further mentioned that there are gross and net prizes for both male and female categories, as well as for Veterans and Super Veterans.
Expected to participate in the competition are Chairman BOT of the club, Justice Lambo Akanbi (Rtd), and other Board members, including Engr. Lanre Sagaya, Otunba Olusola Adekanola, and Pharm. Layi Maliki.
Home players to watch out for include Malik Mustapha, Habeeb Azeez, and two-time winner of the event Jide Allen. Visiting golfers such as Owolabi from Abeokuta Golf Club and Olumide Afolabi of Ikoyi Golf Club should not be overlooked.
