The Nigeria U-18 women's handball team will play against Kosovo in the final of the Youth category at the IHF Women's Trophy Intercontinental Phase following their hard-fought 32-28 victory over host Uzbekistan in the semifinal on Saturday.
Not only did they play against the host, but also against the fans who were present in large numbers at the Alpomish Muz Saroyi sports hall in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The Coach Shittu Adewunmi Agboola-tutored side did all they could to compete but fell short, losing the first half 17-15.
The second half was different, as the girls came out with full force, defended better, and took their chances, defeating the host 32-28, much to the shock of their fans.
Captain Kehinde Babatunde, who played in goal for Nigeria, stated in a brief interview with HFN Media that she is grateful that they were able to win despite the toughness of the match.
Kehinde also assured Nigerians that the team will be victorious in the final against Kosovo tomorrow.
"The match we played today was really tough, and we give praise to God that we won," Babatunde said. "We are looking forward to tomorrow's grace, and by God's grace, we will be triumphant," she concluded.
Nigeria will play against Kosovo in the final at 10 am on Sunday morning.
