No fewer than 400 golfers from about 10 African countries are set to compete for honors in the 26th edition of the IBB Amateur Ladies Open in Abuja.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from Feb. 13 to Feb. 17 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club (IBBIGCC), Abuja.
Julie Donli, the Lady Captain of the club, stated that the 2025 edition of the championship promises to be an event to remember, with the theme: “The Abuja Experience.”
She explained that "The Abuja Experience" would include a city tour and cultural displays.
“All is now set for the Ladies Section of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, to host the 26th edition of the IBB Amateur Ladies Open.
“We are expecting no fewer than 400 golfers, including ladies and gentlemen who will participate as guests, both from within the country and from other African countries.
“It is going to be an event to remember, as we will showcase our culture, fashion, food, drinks, music, and the renowned hospitality of Abuja. As the theme suggests, it promises to be a true 'Abuja Experience,'” she said.
Donli mentioned that about 10 African countries had so far indicated their interest in participating in the championship, with over 400 players expected from across the country and the continent.
She listed some of the participating countries as Uganda, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Botswana, Kenya, Rwanda, Cameroon, and the host country, Nigeria.
The Lady Captain assured that all necessary preparations had been made to ensure an exciting experience for all participants, with several side attractions planned for the five-day event.
She highlighted the championship's significance, noting its inclusion in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and mentioning that professionals would also take part in the tournament, with many enticing prizes to be won.
“The championship will feature a female professionals’ tournament with a $5,000 prize money.
“The amateur championship offers a return ticket to the UK, an all-expenses-paid weekend stay at the Ibom Golf Resort in Uyo, and other exciting prizes.
“It will be preceded by a caddies’ and course workers’ competition, which is the first of its kind,” she said.
