The 15th IBB International Golf and Country Club Junior Open Championship got underway in Abuja, the nation's capital.
Over 160 young Golfers from 20 clubs across the federation are taking part in the three days competition which started on Wednesday.
Performing the ceremonial tee off, the Olumobi of Imobi-Ijesha in Osun State, His Royal Highness, Oba Dr. Adetayo Haastrup urged the Golfers to brace up for future challenges as the country awaits to see them in international outings.
The Oba, while thanking the Lady Section of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja for organizing the event, advising them to allow the golfers to compete without favouring any particular player or club.
Lady Captain, Comfort Olasade Olateju, said the intention of organizing the event is to pick the best for the year among them.
"The persons declared as champions in all the categories will have their names sent to St. Andrews.
"This year, we have 160 participants, we actually cut down on the numbers, so as to have manageable numbers that we can cater for. Those that came from outside Abuja were giving hotel accommodations in Maitama with full security, and two of our Pros are staying with them," she said.
The players who came from Jos, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ikoyi, Ikeja, Port Harcourt as well as Asaba, were divided into three categories.
They are category Seven to Ten years, Eleven to Fourteen years and Fifteen to Eighteen years.
The event is expected to end on Friday with presentations of trophies to the winners.
